Two well-known chefs are sleeping on Asbury Park’s boardwalk to raise awareness and funds for homeless youths.

Joe Leone, of Joe Leone’s Italian Specialties and Catering of Point Pleasant Beach and Sea Girt, and Marilyn Schlossbach, owner and executive chef of the Marilyn Schlossbach Group, spent their first night Tuesday sleeping in cardboard boxes on the boardwalk.

The pair said they will continue to sleep there until they raise $50,000 for Covenant House, a nonprofit charity serving homeless youth with a network of shelters across the Americas. The charity is currently in the process of building a home on Asbury Park’s West Side to house young men who are in the process of improving their lives.

More than $13,000 has already been raised toward the Leone and Schlossbach’s $50,000 goal.
