Weekend events canceled, postponed as Ophelia nears New Jersey

Here’s a list of events that have been canceled and/or postponed in New Jersey due to the upcoming storm this weekend.

Businesses and outside events will be impacted by Tropical Storm Ophelia, expected to produce some drenching rainfall and gusty wind.
Down at the shore, the wind was picking up Friday evening and temperatures dropped.
The boardwalk in Asbury Park was not as busy as usual for a Friday night in September. Businesses are packing up. It was unclear if they will remain open throughout the weekend.
Just across from the ocean, Asbury Fest opened for its first night with tents and tables getting knocked down by the wind. Vendors and organizers say they hope Mother Nature gives them a break.
"Tonight should be fine, tomorrow is the day we are not 100% sure about, but weather changes," says Mat Whelan, executive director of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce.
Whelan says it is a rain-or-shine event.
Here’s a list of events that have been canceled and/or postponed:
  • Animal Protection League of New Jersey – Protest for the Bears in Paramus - Canceled.
  • Branchburg Country Fair – Rescheduled for a later date that has not yet been determined.
  • Edison 2023 Fall Festival – Canceled.
  • Holland Ridge Farms in Cream Ridge will be closed Saturday, Sept. 23.
  • Mercer-Middlesex Walk to End Alzheimer’s that was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23 – postponed to Sunday, Oct. 29.
  • Middletown Day originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23 – postponed to Saturday, Oct. 14.
  • Randolph Country Fair – Postponed to Oct. 7.
  • West Windsor Community Day – Canceled. Refunds for space reservations and sponsorships will be processed as soon as possible.
  • Bergen County Fall Harvest Festival in Overpeck County Park. Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24. "There is no rain date for this event."
  • Celebra La Vida! Y Baila! in Elizabeth scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23 has been postponed to a later date.
