Weather, not long lines, are causing most of the delays for New Jersey travelers on the day before Thanksgiving, also known as the busiest travel day of the year.
Whipping winds and rain were the only things delaying incoming and outgoing flights at Newark Liberty International Airport. Airport workers expected large crowds, but the lines have been short. Many travelers booked earlier flights to avoid crowds later in the day, but airport officials say check-in lines remained relatively short throughout the entire day.
Roadways were another story in the Garden State. Turnpike officials say the majority of travelers will be driving to their holiday destinations, typically causing the roads to get packed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Turnpike officials add keeping the maximum number of toll lanes open for motorists helps traffic move along.
