The summer trend of live drive-in entertainment shows during the COVID-19 pandemic is showing no signs of slowing down. Next up: A drive-in comedy show.
New Jersey comedian Jim Breuer says that it is time for New Jerseyans to have a few laughs and a break from the stress of the pandemic.
Breuer will perform on Aug. 23 in a show produced by Englewood’s Bergen Performing Arts Center. It will be held in the parking lot of the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall. Similar to other drive-in performances, the event will feature a socially distanced audience who will remain in and around their vehicles.
Breuer says that people need laughter now more than ever.
“It’s very unhealthy for us not to see each other smiling. It’s unhealthy for your mind, for your soul and our beings,” he says.
Bergen PAC’s Sunset Drive-in concert series is an effort to earn income since it has been closed for months because of the pandemic. The series kicks off Aug. 16 with a concert by rock icon Southside Johnny.
Breuer says it will be his first public performance since the onset of the pandemic.
“We need this right now. We need to get together. We need to laugh,” he says.
Details about the event can be found on the Bergen PAC website.
