Work is under way at Wayne Towne Center, where several stores and restaurants are slated to open this autumn.
Developers are counting on diners stopping in at the Olive Garden, T.G.I. Friday's, Chipotle and the tropical-themed Bahama Breeze in the center once the spots open. In 2009, a Dick's Sporting Goods, Motherhood Maternity and Ulta Beauty will move in as well.
Developers say the new businesses will create hundreds of jobs. Hiring at the Olive Garden begins next week, with more than 100 jobs available.
Though some believe the construction and development will be a boost to the community, others worry traffic might become a headache.
"I'm thrilled with an Olive Garden because I wanted an Olive Garden close by ? but it's hard to get around here," says Kimberly Hyden, of Oakland.
