A water main break in a portion of Ocean County has prompted a boil water order.

The order is for residents in the Whiting section of Manchester Township, who use water supplied by the township.

Manchester Township police say that residents must boil their water before drinking or using it for cooking. Showering and other uses are OK.

The order does not impact residents who use private wells.
