Students at Woodbridge High School are sticking up for their class president whose alleged role in a water balloon fight is preventing him from delivering a speech at graduation Thursday.
Thirty students nearly missed out on the chance to attend the graduation ceremony with their friends after a water balloon fight spilled into the school. The school board reversed the graduation ban placed on the seniors Wednesday but maintained class president Gino Abate wouldn?t be allowed to speak at the ceremony.
A lawyer for the students say Abate is being singled out and punished for speaking to the media. Students say Abate did nothing wrong. ?He got hit by a water balloon, but he never actually threw one. So it?s not fair,? one classmate said.
News 12 New Jersey is arranging to videotape Abate?s speech, that he won?t deliver at graduation. One of attorneys says he hopes the video gets posted on the Internet to be seen by thousands.
