Some residents in Watchung have started a petition to save the town's public library.
The town council voted in favor of allowing redevelopment of the library's location and not build a new one.
Supporters of the library acknowledge the building is not in good condition, but are hoping to convince local officials to change their minds about shutting it down.
"This library is like the heart and soul of this town,” says Amy Fiorilla. “It's really sad for a lot of our residents that it would be closing down."
The Watchung borough administrator says it's likely the library will stay open until the end of the year.
He says the borough is looking into sharing library services with Warren's public library, and the possibility of certain library programs continuing at a different location in town.
