A Passaic County family says that the curve near their home is so dangerous that cars have crashed into their mailbox six times this year alone. The family is hoping that someone from the state can help them out.
The Schmitt family lives on Macopin Road in Bloomingdale.
“The danger of getting in and out of this driveway is ridiculous,” says Donna Schmitt.
The Schmitts say that they moved the mailbox to the other side of the street, but that area is so dangerous that the Postal Service stopped delivering mail.
The family has lived in the home for three years and says that they are often afraid to pull out of the driveway. They have requested a lighted sign or some other type of safety measure to slow down the traffic.
“There’s got to be something that can be done to slow people down,” says Donna.
The mayor of Bloomingdale has tried to help, but there isn’t much that the town can do since it is a county road. The county has not been responsive, according to the Schmitts.
News 12 New Jersey reached out to the Passaic County Administrator’s Office but did not hear a response.
