NORAD intercepts multiple aircraft that violated restricted airspace over New Jersey
More than 10 general aviation aircraft entered temporary flight restriction zones over Bedminster and East Rutherford on Sunday, prompting three military intercepts.

NORAD fighter jets intercepted multiple civilian aircraft Sunday after they violated temporary flight restrictions over Bedminster and East Rutherford, officials said.
According to NORAD, more than 10 general aviation aircraft entered restricted airspace over the two New Jersey locations on July 19. Three of those violations required intercepts by NORAD F-16 fighter aircraft.
During two of the intercepts, the F-16s deployed flares to attract the pilots' attention. NORAD said the flares burn out quickly, pose no danger to people on the ground and are used with safety as the highest priority.
All of the aircraft were safely escorted out of the restricted airspace.
NORAD said pilots intercepted by military aircraft should immediately tune to emergency radio frequencies 121.5 or 243.0, reverse course and wait for further instructions.
Temporary flight restrictions are commonly put in place around locations where the president or other protected officials are present. Bedminster is home to President Donald Trump's golf club, while East Rutherford hosted the FIFA World Cup final Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
