Some legislators in Washington are calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment even as his term is set to end in just over a week.
Both Democrats and some Republicans say they're backing impeachment because of the message it sends.
"The violence targeting Congress are horrors that will forever stain our nation's history instigated by the President of the United States," says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Wednesday's storming of the Capitol claimed five lives, including a Capitol police officer who worked in the building.
The president's speech before the riot has people on both sides of the aisle calling for action.
"I believe the president has disregarded his oath of office," says Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska. "What he did was wicked."
If an impeachment process does take place and Trump is convicted in the Senate, he would be removed from office if it were to come before his term ends -- and he could then be disqualified from holding federal office in the future.
