Spring cleanup is underway in Hoboken for the third annual Spring Fling, a day intended to have volunteers clean up parks and public spaces.

Last year, volunteers focused on trash pickup. This year, volunteers are painting railings and benching to make the area look fresh and more appealing to visit.

"On the way to work, it's a nice, beautiful area people can walk through and I think, when I walk through town personally, I can look at a bench and say, 'I painted that,'" says Julianne Cort.

In other parts of the city, volunteers are picking up trash, mulching and planting trees.

Mayor Ravi Bhalla calls the work these volunteers do an inspiration.

"Every year this grows a little more and the buzz in the community keeps on generating," says Bhalla. "And hopefully it'll also inspire other communities to do similar things."

The goal is to have a cleaner city and for more people to volunteer each year.
