Vigil held for 2 teens who drowned at Ramapo Lake
Friends and family of two teens who drowned in a Bergen County lake held a vigil Wednesday in their honor.
Matthew Poole, 17, and Isabella Brodsky, 17, died Tuesday while swimming at Ramapo Lake in Oakland.
Officials say that the teens were swimming in the lake when a thunderstorm moved through the area. Brodsky apparently began struggling to swim in the water and Poole jumped in to save her, but started to struggle as well.
New Jersey park police say they were notified about "possible drownings" around 7 p.m., and the teens' bodies were found late Tuesday night. No other injuries were reported.
A GoFundMe page set up for Poole’s family states that he was about to start his senior year at Livingston High School, where he was a member of the school football team.
The GoFundMe page has raised at least $24,000 as of Wednesday evening.
