The Vietnam traveling memorial is in Bergen County through the weekend.
A motorcycle procession escorted the wall Thursday into Garfield, and set it up at Babe Ruth Field.
The wall is a replica of the monument in Washington D,C., half the size, but includes the names of over 58,000 service members killed in Vietnam.
Eleven of them were from Garfield.
One veteran explained the atmosphere in the country 40 plus years ago, the appalling treatment the veterans received.
"In ‘75, the Americans left Vietnam and the servicemen that were coming back were berated, spat upon and cursed and called un-American murderers,” says Irwin Wasserman, Post Commander, Garfield VFW Post 2867. “They were not respected. It took many years for them to gain respect and honor as heroes."
The wall will be on display through the weekend, and veterans can stop by anytime.
The public can see it until Friday at 1 p.m., and then Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
