Videos posted on social media showed crowds not adhering to social distancing rules. Many appeared to not be wearing masks.
The video got the attention of Gov. Phil Murphy, as well as Belmar Mayor Mark Walsifer, who says police had to break up lines outside the venue. Once past security in the outdoor section, too many people gathered too quickly. The mayor says you need outdoor table space, social distancing and if that doesn't change, he will have to close it down.
“The governor might have to close all the outdoor dining because he paints with a big broad brush,” says Mayor Mark Walsifer. “He's going to worry about the whole state of New Jersey and we don't want that to happen, just because what happens in Belmar.”
Extra police will be on hand. The mayor says since reopening, D'jais did a good job complying with all the rules, except Saturday, and that is what has the governor's unwanted attention.
