At the Salvation Army's annual Christmas Party in Newark, about a hundred veterans got the chance to mingle.
Many veterans have spent the holidays overseas and say they enjoy the companionship of others that have served our country.
Many of the veterans at the party were veterans more senior in age, but Thomas Haug, a 27-year-old Marine tells News 12 New Jersey "I just feel like I can relate to them, I can go up and talk to them. Especially around the holiday season - it feels good."
