Local leaders in the Bronx want tougher penalties for vandals and thieves who target houses of worship. The call for harsher penalties comes after a statue at Saint Frances de Chantal in Throgs Neck was knocked over and broken last week. The vandals have not been caught. Members of the Anti-Defamation League say acts of hate occur are not j limited to just one religion. They say 219 cases of anti-Semitism were reported in the Bronx and city last year and nearly 40 percent of those incidents involved vandalism.
