Elementary school students in Union County will have to relocate because of a mold issue.
The Union Township Public School District says a concerned Hannah Caldwell Elementary School teacher prompted the search for mold in the school's library. The school building was closed last Thursday.
Parents say they have more questions than answers. They even say students and teachers have gotten sick as a result.
The district told parents that Hannah Caldwell would be closed for at least two weeks but said they could not yet predict how long students and teachers would be out of their classrooms. Classes are being temporarily relocated to other gyms and libraries in the district.
Matthew Chase has three students attending Hannah Caldwell who are now being relocated to schools at different locations.
"So now in the morning and at pickup time we're going to have to go to three separate locations to get them," he says.
"They're putting kindergarteners in high school," says parent Liliana Almeida.
District officials explained that remote learning was not an option. But parents say they don't have all the details about busing, with relocation less than two days away.
"How are they going to get back and forth, who is going to get them on the bus? My daughter has never been on a bus," says Almeida.
Parents say their main concerns are stability for their kids and communication from the school district.
News 12 has also been working to get in touch with the school's administration, which also told parents they would schedule a meeting, but hasn't said when that will be.
