A hairstylist in Union Township is helping women see beauty in their natural curls - one cut at a time.
Cinthia, a client at
Joe Miguel Salon, said she spent most of her life straightening her hair to fit in with traditional beauty standards.
“Most of my life, I had my hair straight just due to my culture," she said. "That is kind of just what I saw as a standard of beauty."
That changed when she met Joe Miguel, who created his own method, known as Precision Curl Cutting, and has been in the industry for over a decade. He said the technique has helped many women rediscover confidence in their natural texture.
“I developed my own type of cutting technique which I call precision curl cutting,” Miguel said.
Miguel said his work is about more than just hair. It is about empowerment and helping clients embrace who they are.
“I hear stories of clients, of how they were treated before and how they wanted to embrace their curls," he says. "And us, as curly hair stylists, we kind of have to at times, you know, give them that special advice on how they should be confident.
For many, that confidence shines the moment they see their finished look.
“Omg, I love it,” one client exclaimed after seeing her curls styled.
Miguel said those reactions are what make his work worthwhile. He has been styling clients at his Union County salon for the past five years, helping each one see themselves in a new light.
Cinthia said she’s grateful for that change.
“He kind of saw something that I did not see in myself which was to embrace my curly hair,” she said.
