Union County will provide election information in Spanish as well as English. A settlement was reached with the Justice Department after it was alleged the union had violated the voting rights act of 1965 by not catering to its many Spanish-speaking voters.
“The right to vote is the bedrock of our democracy,” said U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, District of New Jersey. “We remain committed to ensuring that every eligible New Jersey voter can vote without language barriers. Now that a court order is in place, we look forward to working with Union County to accomplish this goal.”
All polling sites will now have translators available. And voting information will be posted online in Spanish. Telephone assistance will be available as well.
