Investigators may be close to making an arrest after three people, including two high school students, were shot in Irvington Tuesday.
Officials say two of the victims are students at Irvington High School. The third victim is an adult. All three are said to be conscious and alert. Witnesses have reported at least six shots were fired shortly after classes let out for the afternoon. Police say the suspected shooter is not a student at Irvington High School.
The school superintendent say the shooting did not take place on school property. A spokesperson for University Hospital says the three victims are a 22-year-old male in serious condition, a 16-year-old female in fair condition and a 15-year-old male in fair condition.
Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith says the police department has solid leads in relation to the incident, and arrests could be imminent. The mayor assures residents the high school is safe and students should not be afraid to go to class Wednesday. He also says security will be increased at the high school in light of the shooting.
Police believe the incident may have been part of an altercation between the shooter and the teenage male victim.
