Two Clinton Township police officers found themselves on the other side of the law Wednesday.
On Tuesday, officers Christopher Szymanski and Jason Peltack were arrested and accused of official misconduct. Investigators say the pair tried to cover up a hit-and-run crash involving Peltack?s personal car. The alleged incident happened last August on Route 31.
?It?s alleged that officer Peltack went into the computer system, which is our system for our accidents, and falsified the accident report,? said Robert Maney, the Clinton Township police director.
Investigators say the cover-up was exposed while prosecutors were investigating Peltack for a domestic incident. They say Peltack was arrested by Raritan police last week after he drove by his old high school with a loaded shotgun.
If convicted of second-degree misconduct, both officers could spend five to 10 years behind bars. Meanwhile, both officers have been suspended without pay.
