Morris County prosecutors say a garbage truck driver from Newark has been sentenced to four years in prison for a fatal crash in Pequannock.
Police say surveillance video revealed Angel Caraballo-Maldona, 45, was on the phone when he hit an SUV in front of him on Route 23 at a red light, killing the driver of that car back in May.
Police say Caraballo-Maldona and a good Samaritan pulled the man from a 2020 Chevy Traverse and tried to save him. The man died at the scene of the accident at the intersection of Route 23 North and Alexander Avenue.
Caraballo-Maldona had previously entered a guilty plea to second degree reckless vehicular homicide on Aug. 29.
