(05/04/06) TRENTON ? Residents in Trenton are coming to the aid of a mentally disabled man who was beaten last Friday and left blind in one eye.
Police say 29-year-old Joey Damiano was attacked by at least six men in the Chambersburg section of the city. Friends and fellow residents are now rallying behind Damiano in the aftermath of the attack. Those who knew Damiano say he probably approached his attackers in a friendly manner, but was beaten in return.
Customers at one local business have chipped in to help the victim, and a fundraiser called ?Justice for Joey? will be held next Tuesday. Damiano?s friends are not only raising money, they are trying to raise awareness in the hopes police catch the attackers.
