Business owners in downtown Trenton say they're glad to see an illegal cigarette ring disappear off their street. On Friday, Trenton Police and state Department of Taxation officers shut down a block of North Broad Street and arrested 10 people for allegedly selling illegal cigarettes outside the stores. Storeowners say cigarette sales have been down because people have been buying them off the street. Illegal vendors are able to sell cigarettes cheaper since they do not pay the $2.50 in taxes per pack that is required by law. During the raid, investigators seized 65 cartons of cigarettes and $5,000 in cash. Anyone wishing to report illegal cigarette sales can call 609-291-7153.
