A Trenton man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a toddler.

Maison Andres Torres is accused of burning and beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter before suffocating her.

Police say they were originally called to the Chestnut Avenue home.

The girl died at a hospital a short time later.

An autopsy is being performed.

Torres faces a detention hearing on Tuesday.
