Grace Cathedral Fellowship has decided to power its church from above ? through solar power.
The church installed dozens of solar panels recently on its sanctuary and fellowship hall. Pastor Jerome Wilcox says the $600,000 investment will return significant savings. Wilcox estimates the panels will generate 120,000 kilowatts per year.
"Some debt is bad debt, some debt is good debt," he says. "This is good debt we got into, because in the long run, it'll pay for itself."
The church isn't alone in its decision to go green. Christ Congregation in Princeton installed solar panels in 2006.
"The Lord has blessed us, and we use the sun he has given," says Pastor Wilcox. "We use the S-U-N, sun ? but then there's the S-O-N, son."
