Travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport facing more summer travel delays, cancellations after heavy rains slam parts of New Jersey

Strong winds and heavy rain moved throughout New Jersey Tuesday, causing flood alerts in several counties.
Newark Liberty International Airport was placed under a ground stop around noon due to the severe weather prompting flight delays and cancellations.
Airlines experiencing the most issues Wednesday were GoJet, United Airlines and Republic which services a number of Delta and United flights .
It was deemed unsafe to fly Tuesday as thunderstorms moved throughout Union, Essex and Bergen counties. Within that hour alone, delays going out of the airport averaged an hour, while delays coming into the airport were over three hours.
Flood advisories were put out given the heavy torrential downpours in the area, but many were lifted no later than 3 p.m. Tuesday.
On Sunday, Newark had a combined 365 incoming and outgoing flights. About 30% of all its scheduled flights were canceled and another 461 were delayed.
