A transformer exploded and trees were downed as Isaias ripped through Metuchen Tuesday.

Police closed roads throughout the town, including on Central Avenue, where a tree was seen on top of a transformer.

Residents say transformers were exploding at the peak of the storm around noon to 1 p.m.

A tree also fell across the entrance and exit to a small condo complex. Tenants were unable to move their cars out.

More wires and trees littered the town, including a tree that toppled against a house.

With clear skies returning and power outages scattered, many residents were seen heading out to eat as if the storm had never passed through.
