? Totowa officials say it is safe for residents to drink their water after oil spilled into the Passaic River Sunday affecting homes and businesses from Totowa to Newark Bay.

Emergency crews searched for the source of the spill by helicopter and land. Officials say it originated from a broken valve at the Tilcon Asphalt plant near Route 44 in Totowa. Authorities say they managed to shut off the valve before it contaminated the water supply to a treatment facility.

Allen Delvecchio, of the Totowa Office of Emergency Management, says there?s no official word on how much oil was spilled, but it could be as much as 9,000 gallons.
