Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township is bringing a nostalgic twist to its Boardwalk area as part of an overall transformation that pays homage to the Jersey Shore.
Shoreline Pier at The Boardwalk promises an oceanside amusement pier vibe.
"Shoreline Pier captures the spirit of a summer night down the Shore — salt in the air, lights dancing off the water, music drifting across the midway and rides whirling against a glowing sky," Six Flags Great Adventure said in a press release. "The addition honors beloved Jersey coast destinations while delivering new thrills and storytelling."
Some Shoreline Pier attractions include "Barrels O' Fun," a coaster with wooden barrel-inspired cars, and "Flying Scooters," which the park describes as a classic ride that "puts guests in control of their own flight around the boardwalk."
"Riders soar on winged scooters, using the sails to swing, dip and glide—choosing between a gentle breeze or a more thrilling ride with each push and pull," the park said.
There will also be a "Wave Swinger" ride, similar to popular swing rides down the shore. The ride is similar to the "Flying Wave," which was part of Great Adventure from 1974 until 2007. Another classic ride is "Super Roundup." The spinning ride sends standing riders in fast circles, using centrifugal force to hold them against the walls as it tilts 80 degrees. This one has been at the park in various forms since 1974.
"Super Roundup proudly reclaims its original name in a new location after a complete mechanical makeover, having previously twirled under the names Fantasy Fling, The Tornado and Swashbuckler," Six Flags said.
The new and reimagined rides will pave the way for a major new roller coaster, set to open sometime in 2027.
In addition to the rides, Shoreline Pier has Jersey Shore-themed foods including disco fries, corn dogs, funnel cake sundaes, Italian ice and "Gabagool On-a-Stick," described as "capicola dipped in corn batter and finished with a hot honey drizzle."
There will also be entertainers all over the pier from stilt-walkers to live musicians that continue after the sun goes down.
The park officially opens Saturday and will coincide with Great Adventure's Safari Spring Break Celebration, which runs through April 12, and Wild Safari Base Camp, which reopens April 3.
