An Ocean County beach plagued by constant erosion will be fixed in time for Memorial Day weekend.
Construction crews from Earle Asphalt of Farmingdale are set to begin working on Ortley Beach in Toms River on Wednesday where they will repair washed out walkways and smooth out cliffs cause by winter erosion. The repairs should last for the entire summer season.
This will cost the township another $300,000. The money is coming from the snow removal budget which went almost untouched this year. The entire process should take about two weeks - wrapping up in time for the holiday weekend.
Since 2018, the town spent more than $1 million fixing the beaches following a federal tax dollar dune and beach replenishment. The mayor and engineer have both gone on the record saying the feds built the beach and dune too far east from the street which is creating the problems. They are hoping for a major design fix this winter when they return.
