Authorities in New Jersey say the man who was shot by police after they say he drew a gun on officers is expected to survive.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says officers in Toms River were approaching a suspicious vehicle late Thursday when 29-year-old Timothy Sauers pointed a gun at them. The officers opened fire.
The prosecutor says Sauers jumped into the Toms River and was apprehended about an hour later. He was taken to a hospital and the prosecutor says he is expected to survive.
No officers were injured.
Sauers was sentenced to five years in jail in 2009 after pleading guilty to death by auto for a crash that killed a 7-year-old girl. Prosecutors said he ran a red light while involved in a phone dispute with his girlfriend.
