The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared Morris, Middlesex and Hudson counties disaster areas Friday.
The three counties are now added to the list of six counties President Bush declared disaster areas on Thursday, Bergen, Burlington, Essex, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties. All nine are now eligible for federal assistance.
Some in Morris County had felt slighted after the original announcement was made. However, now they are thrilled they will be getting the help they need to cleanup after the nor'easter.
Morris County estimates $13 million in damages and officials say the cost is still rising.
FEMA officials say assistance can include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs. According to FEMA, assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis. Residents can apply online with FEMA between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. or by phone.
