A GoFundMe set up for the family of a 3-year-old boy killed by his neighbor’s dogs in Carteret has raised more than $49,000.
The fundraiser was set up by coworkers of the boy’s father. The toddler was identified at Aziz Ahmed.
Authorities say that the boy and his mother were attacked by two pit bulls Monday afternoon in the backyard of their Laurel Street home. The dogs apparently got into the yard through a hole in the fence.
The boy’s mother remains in the hospital. Her current condition was not known, but family members told News 12 that she will recover.
Both dogs have been euthanized.
It was not immediately known if the dogs’ owners will be facing any criminal charges.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Carteret Police Department are investigating.
