The streets of Newark were pink Sunday morning in an effort to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Thousands of breast cancer survivors, their loved ones and those committed to ending the disease joined for the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk.
Katherine Westfield, of Newark, says it's been 21 years since her sister Julie Harris passed away. She marched down Broad Street in honor of her.
"My memory is knowing that my sister was strong for everyone and strong for herself,” she says. “She was a strong woman, and she always going to be in our heart.”
Stories of hope, inspiration and entrepreneurship were on the walk route.
Monique Smith-Andrews, founder of the Mo'Hair Foundation, has been doing her part to help after seeing how cancer treatment caused her mother to lose her hair.
Smith-Andrews has provided free hair replacement for over 200 adults and kids.
