Thousands of New Jersey residents headed down the shore in order to cool off as temperatures reached above 90 degrees Monday.
An excessive heat warning was issued for parts of the state due to the warm conditions. Several schools had early dismissals due to the higher temperatures.
The owner of popular Belmar restaurant Mamalukes says that dozens of people came in for ice cream. Other Jersey Shore businesses also saw an increase in business Monday.
Health officials say that people should limit the amount of time they are outside when conditions get this hot. New Jerseyans should drink plenty of water and stay in the shade when they can.
Beach officials say that they want to remind beachgoers to only swim in the ocean if a certified lifeguard is on duty.
