Students coming from families under a certain annual yearly income can attend Rutgers University in New Brunswick at a discounted tuition, and for some -- it may even be free.

The school is launching a new financial aid program called the Scarlet Guarantee.

The program helps New Jersey students with family incomes below $65,000 to attend tuition free.

It also limits the amount of out-of-pocket tuition and fees for students with family incomes below $100,000.

It will be available to first- and second-year students. About 7,600 students are expected to take advantage of the program.
