‘The excitement is at a different level.’ Rutgers football season opens Saturday

Big 10 football officially begins this week, which means Greg Schiano will return as Rutgers’ head coach.
It has been a roller coaster of a preseason for the Big 10 teams. But Rutgers is finally ready for the kickoff. Schiano says that even he doesn’t know what fans can expect this season.
The team released its depth chart on Monday. Two quarterbacks are listed as potential starters - redshirt sophomore and Old Bridge native Art Sitkowski and Noah Vedral, a grad transfer from Nebraska.
Schiano says we likely won't find out who is starting until game time.
“The job they've done in their preparation has been very good,” Schiano says.
The coach says that there has been a renewed energy among the players at practice.
“This is it, this is why you coach. This is why you play, so I think there's an excitement level,” Schiano says. “You can tell the excitement level when we got back to work. It took a big jump and you can tell today the excitement level in the building is at a different level.”
Rutgers’ season opener against Michigan State will be Saturday at 12 p.m.
