A judge has ordered an 18-year-old woman accused of killing her newborn baby to remain behind bars for the time being.
A Monmouth County judge ordered that Jada McClain, of Neptune, remain in jail until her trial.
McClain pleaded not guilty last week to the killing of her newborn son, Legend.
Prosecutors say that McClain admitted to pressing down on her newborn’s chest with both hands until he stopped breathing. This was after she gave birth to him in her bathroom last month.
According to an affidavit, McClain also admitted to trying to terminate her pregnancy by using drugs and alcohol while pregnant. She also allegedly hid the pregnancy from her parents.
Prosecutors also say that Quaimere Mohammed, the baby’s father, threw his remains in a dumpster in Asbury Park to conceal the death. The baby’s remains have not yet been found.
