(07/21/06) TEANECK ? A mother and father in Teaneck are breathing a deep sigh of relief after their son managed to escape the violent situation in the Middle East.
Jared Nelson went to Israel on a three-week assignment to teach English in the town of Nahariya. The trip, sponsored by the Jewish Appeal Federation, turned into a frightening visit to bomb shelters once fighting broke out between Israel and Hezbollah. Nelson says the force of the explosions was so strong, he could feel the vibrations through his feet. Despite the conflict, Nelson says he did not want to leave the country. However, he eventually changed his mind at the urging of his mother. Nelson says he decided to return home to give his parents piece of mind. He plans on returning to Israel once the conflict ends.
