Eliminate all traffic related fatalities by the year 2040 — that's the goal of state officials, as New Jersey stands out as the most hazardous state for pedestrians nationwide. The state has almost twice the national average for pedestrian fatalities.
This afternoon, Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to sign the Target Zero bill, which has passed the Assembly, into law.
This legislation creates a New Jersey Target Zero Commission which will study, examine, and review traffic safety measures with a goal of eliminating all traffic related fatalities by 2040.
