The 2020 NFL Draft saw 255 athletes have their professional football dreams come true this weekend, including new members of the New York Giants and New York Jets.
After selecting tackle Mekhi Becton in the first round, the Jets followed up by giving quarterback Sam Darnold some more help, drafting Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims in the second round, a likely replacement for Robby Anderson.
“I think that we can come in, I can come in right away and get rolling together, build a great connection and in turn make the Jets program a lot better,” says Mims.
The team also picked up a running back and quarterback in the fourth round, while also adding some speedy defensive playmakers, such as Florida’s Jabari Zuniga and California’s Ashtyn Davis in the third round.
“I think objectively looking at my game, the deep defense, but I'm comfortable playing inside and out and I look forward to manning some people up and I'm assuming that will be in the cards for me and whatever they ask me to do, I'm capable of doing it,” says Davis.
For the Giants, the offensive line will be improved thanks to guys such as Andrew Thomas and Matt Peart, as will the secondary. The team picked up UCLA cornerback Darnay Holmes in the fourth round, and safety Xavier McKinney from Alabama in the second round. McKinney says he's excited to play alongside his new teammate, East Orange native Jabrill Peppers.
"I actually followed him when he was coming out because he was also a safety that played a lot of positions in college when he came out, and I'm a big fan of him,” says McKinney.
