Beachgoers need not let 'Shark Week' keep them from taking a dip at the Jersey Shore, according to a New Jersey shark expert.
Dean Fessler, of the Princeton-based Shark Research Institute, says it is virtually impossible to spot a member of what was once a healthy white shark population off New Jersey. Not only are their numbers diminished, but Fessler adds shark bites are typically mistakes.
Humans aren't meaty or tasty enough for shark attacks to be commonplace. If we were, Fessler says, shark encounters would occur every day.
