A man who police say is responsible for a string of Bergen County robberies is in custody, but another remains at large, police said Thursday.
Authorities say a retired NYPD officer saw one of the men sneaking out of a Pearl River, N.Y. house Wednesday. Police arrested the man, which eventually led them to his Englewood apartment. Authorities say they found iPods, jewelry, travelers checks and thousands of dollars in cash at 27-year-old Diego Serna's residence.
Sources say Serna ? charged with burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property ? confessed to committing up to 10 burglaries. The crimes took place in Bergen County and New York.
Authorities are looking for Serna's suspected accomplice Eleo Gonzalez. Police believe the men may be responsible for as many as 30 North Jersey home invasions.
The police activity surrounding the Pearl River investigation sparked a lockdown of some schools in that area.
