The first week of summer brought all the elements of the season in full force.
The ongoing heat wave gave way to a weekend marked by stormy weather - Saturday in North Jersey and Sunday in South Jersey.
The National Weather Service reported on Sunday wind gusts of up to 70 mph. Across the state, tens of thousands lost power. The pouring rain also made driving treacherous.
It was the bookend to a wild weather weekend. Saturday, storms brought hail to Boonton Township and knocked down trees and power lines all over Union County.
Residents, however, continued to resort to public pools, the beach and cooling centers to manage the ongoing heat wave.
