Trenton officials decided to open swimming pools a day early on Sunday to ensure residents had a way to beat this weekend's blazing heat.
Attendance was strong on at Hetzel Pool this first weekend of summer in the state capital.
Mayor Reed Gusciora said the city is well-stocked on lifeguards, pool attendants and maintenance crew.
“This weather is just overbearing, and this is a welcome relief for all of us,” Gusciora said.
Trenton police reminded residents of the cooling center open at the Sam Naples Community Center on Chestnut Avenue.
Residents who come to Hetzel Pool on Monday for the official opening will be treated to a hamburger-hot dog barbecue.
