A new study says that food borne illnesses kill about 5,000 people each year and sicken thousands more.
The report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest points to some healthy foods, such as leafy greens and tomatoes, as among the culprits responsible for the outbreaks.
But New Jersey's Health Commissioner Heather Howard says the public shouldn't overreact to the study.
"It would be unfortunate if what people took away from this is that they stopped eating leafy vegetables, because we know how healthy they are," she says. "We want to remind people to eat fruits and vegetables but to take the proper precautions."
