Bayonne residents will experience some street closures and detours in the coming weeks as Veolia crews begin work today to replace a 30-inch water main.
Beginning today, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said Avenue E will be closed in both directions between 32nd and 33rd streets in order to safely allow crews to complete the work. The closures will be in place during daytime hours, and the roadway will open again at night and on weekends, police said.
During the project, residents are advised to avoid the area, follow the posted detours and use alternate routes whenever possible to get around the area.
Officials say the upgrade project is expected to last approximately four weeks.
According to Bayonne's website, "this major infrastructure project is designed to strengthen long-term system reliability."
Officials say that at this point, the project is not expected to cause any water service interruptions, but residents in the area might experience temporary pressure fluctuations or slight discoloration "due to naturally occurring sediment." If this happens, residents are advised to run cold water until it clears.
