People lined a stretch of highway in Monmouth County on Saturday, demanding justice for George Floyd and systematic change on police brutality.

Floyd was unresponsive for minutes and died after being detained by Minneapolis police last week. Video of a white police officer’s knee on his neck during the arrest has sparked outrage across the country.

The protest along Route 9 began in the afternoon and has remained peaceful. Those on the highway held Black Lives Matter signs and others – saying that they were angry and heartbroken over the 46-year-old man’s death.

"We want all the police officers to know that it's not right it won't be tolerated,” said Tyann Turner, a protester in attendance. “Just because they have the badge the gun the baton and the pepper spray doesn't mean they have the right to hurt someone.”

Many of the protesters were wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
